Hi,
I am packing away my old Compaq Preserio and am looking for a good and reliable business notebook in the 80k budget range to last me over the next 3 years. Any suggesstions from actual users would be welcome. Thank You. Last edited by Arun; 31-03-08 at 08:04 AM. |

Arun,
I have been using business notebooks or laptops since 1995 and here are my thoughts. In the yesteryears laptops were laptops and there was no real difference between a business notebook or any other kind of notebook. However as corporate travellers found that lugging a laptop was too heavy and cumbersome and they started demanding slimmer and lighter laptops (which then came to be called notebooks). Thus the business notebooks came into being. So a business notebook is thin and light and robust. One of the best business notebooks currently is the ThinkPad T61. This is lightweight (around 2.25-2.75 kgs) and well built to handle all the stresses of travelling and day to day use. In fact the ThinkPad T30 which I bought over 7-8 years ago still works without any problems. If you are looking for a slimmer and lighter notebook check out the extremely thin and light sleekest ThinkPad X 300 with a built-in DVD burner. Lenovo's amazing new ThinkPad X300 ultraportable notebook is the thinnest ThinkPad ever — 1.905cm at its thinnest. It's light, too, starting at just 1.33 kg. Comes with a 10 hour battery life with a built in DVD burner. This is much pricier that the T 61. If you are looking for a business laptop from the Dell stable then the Latitude D630 is the way to go. Although bulkier and heavier than the T 61 it comes with a Strong performance; long-lived nine-cell battery; sturdy construction; bright display. I would strongly recommend the Thinkpad T 61 or X 300. Stay away from HP/Compaq business notebooks as they are not that reliable in my experience and their service sucks. In my experience, Thinkpad is the way to go. You can select the T61 or X 300 (if your budget permits).
Their bulit quality is extremely good and the keyboard is the best you can get from a notebook computer. If you are interested in Dell, then I would suggest you to wait for the new New Dell E5000 and E6000 Latitude Series . Last edited by AJAY81; 31-03-08 at 01:06 PM. |

Thank you everybody. I have decided to get either the T61 or X300(depending on the price).

Lenovo still does not have the X300 available in India???
As for the thinkpad t61, still only ONE MODEL?? I see at least 20 variations on the S'pore website. Why this shoddy treatment by Lenove to its Indian customers! Shame on Lenovo. I have ordered mine from overseas. |
