Hi Rajen,
Firstly almost all notebooks are either made in China or Taiwan. Where a notebook is made no longer represents the quality of the notebook. In fact the the world's thinnest and coveted notebook, MacBook Air is made in China. Since you would be using your notebook for browsing, email, etc you can check out the Macbook or Macbook Pro The Macbook should be available for 55-60K and its worth every penny. Although the Macbook can play most Windows applcations, please make sure to check with Apple Support before you buy your Macbook. Alternative I would also recommend you to check out the Dell XPS 1530 along with the HP Pavilion 2700 series windows based PC Notebooks at your nearest Chroma or retail outlet. |

Hi,
Reviving this thread as I got a MacBook (the lowest end model) recently. Upgraded memory to 2x2GB (Transcend), and 320GB HD (Samsung from OWC), bought OEM WinXP just before it went off, and with Bootcamp, I have installed XP on one partition (~50GB). Works fine...very fast compared to my 2004 iBook. Now I have two computers for the price of one!!! (And my iBook will soon be on sale) PbR Chennai |

Thanks! perhaps we can swap stories of macbook issues?
e.g I like the glossy screen, but the front plastic bezel gives a reflection of any straight line/edge as a wavy line/edge, i.e the plastic surface is not absolutely flat. I am listing all such issues so that I can send it in for repair before the warranty runs out!! PbR |

I don't think the wavy line should be a bother as plastic cannot be as flat as a glass panel. But anyways it is best to bring this to the attention of your MacBook dealer. |

Yes, the mag powercord is cool....
BTW, I have seen couple of other MacBooks, and their plastic fronts do not show wavy outlines....am sure apple can set it right quickly. PbR |
